A walking task, a symptom report and a cognitive assessment answer different questions. Each needs a defined population and reliable measurement. Evidence should show that the assessment measures meaningful change in its intended population.
This gives the ARDD 2026 discussion a practical direction: develop the assessment alongside the clinical question. Calling an endpoint “functional” is a starting point; showing that it is fit for its intended use is the work.
