🧬 How much can one organ change the age of the wider system?
Vadim Gladyshev, pictured at the ARDD 2026 opening, examined that question in his scientific presentation. The official recap describes heart-transplant experiments in which a young heart aged faster in an older host, while an older heart took on younger characteristics in a younger host. Yet replacing one organ had little effect on the host’s systemic biological age.
💡 That result puts the surrounding biological environment at the center of the question. Gladyshev also described roughly 50 clocks covering organs, cell types and organelles, and proposed organ-specific interventions timed before disease develops. Together, these ideas suggest a way to study local changes alongside whole-body aging, while testing how far a tissue-level response can influence the wider system.

🧬 At #ARDD2026, Vadim Gladyshev connected transcriptomic clocks with the search for interventions, following candidates from computational screens into cells and mice. The next challenge is separating promising signals from lasting effects.
