🔬 Measuring what patients feel and do
Fiona Marshall used two drug-development examples to examine clinical meaningfulness at ARDD 2026. In the LNA043 osteoarthritis program, MRI showed cartilage regeneration without improved pain or mobility. In sarcopenia, bimagrumab increased muscle mass without improving the functional outcomes described in her talk.
💡 Those experiences informed her discussion of a systems-based approach to diseases driven by aging. She described bringing longitudinal human data and resilience biology into target discovery, drawing on Novartis’ Data42 repository and external population resources.
The research question extends to why some people remain healthy despite biological risk factors. Her presentation connected that question to development in specific diseases, with aging-related measurements included alongside the outcomes that matter to patients.

🔬 Fiona Marshall’s #ARDD2026 talk linked two lessons: cartilage regeneration without better pain or mobility, and muscle-mass gains without better function. The focus: human data and resilience biology. Clinical meaningfulness needs more than a biological signal.
